America: Healing the World

The United States has many soft powers. One of the most controversial soft powers is that we are viewed as the caretakers of the world. After deeming Syria's chemical weapons action a "game-changer", Obama set out to help the Syrian people.  If a country is in need it is our job to fix them, feed them, even fight for them.
This cartoon is a perfect visual of soft power for the United States. It's original form is meant to be in a newspaper, because the cartoon is printed in black and white. This cartoon is pro Obama because of the way the world is looking at him with loving and thankful eyes. Obama is depicted as a doctor, healing the world. There is also a knife in the corner that says "911". It is implied that Obama is healing the world, while healing the United States from being "stabbed" during 9/11. It makes Obama seem like he's presenting a united front for the world. It shows that the United States is still healing from it's past, but we are still able to help other in the process. The way they depicted Obama in this cartoon is kind and nonthreatening, even though this cartoon is dealing with real serious issues.
